How You Can Test & Improve Your Skin Elasticity?

What determines your skin elasticity?

Elasticity is determined by a variety of factors. The most important are your age, gender, weight, and genes. Other factors include sun exposure, diet, and lifestyle, skincare products, stress levels, hormones, and smoking. Alcohol consumption also affects skin elasticity as well as sleep patterns. Some medications and illnesses can reduce your skin’s elasticity. Pollution is also a major factor in aging the skin, especially in urban areas.

Your body’s natural production of collagen and elastin affects your skin’s elasticity to a large degree, but the other factors mentioned above can harm that production process. Do elastin supplements work to reduce that harm! The good news is that it’s possible to take steps to increase your natural collagen production; we’ll look at some steps you can take later on in this article. While you can’t control some aspects like genetic inheritance or pollution there are other factors like exercise and stress levels which you can influence for the better.

How to test your skin elasticity

The numbers on the chart below indicate how tight each of your lines is. If you want to keep your skin elastic, you should find that these elasticity numbers are about the same for all of your lines. If only one line is significantly tighter than its neighbors, then this means that you need to pay a lot more attention to this line so that it will become as equally loose as the other lines. If you want your skin to be as elastic as possible, then make sure that all of these three lines are equally loose.

Total Elasticity (Shore)

In this example, Line A is the tightest and B the loosest – which means that Line C needs more focus to loosen up as much as B did. It is not unusual for a single line to be tighter than its neighbors; if this happens with Lines A and B in this example, then there must also be some other reason (e.g., facial expression or mouth movement) why Line C became so tight compared with Lines A and B.

Size (Dimension)

This represents how large an area of skin requires special care and attention so that it can stretch enough. The smaller areas require less stretching than the larger ones. 

In general, an area where a line meets another will have a very small dimension – i.e., a very small amount of flesh under pressure from fingers/fingernails/knuckles, etc. This indicates that little care or attention needs to go into treating these areas because they should obey the same laws of physics as any other part of our body does: stretch over time and gravity takes care of everything else for us!

Natural Ways to Increase Natural Collagen & Elastin Production:

There are several ways to increase the skin’s natural production of elastin and collagen, resulting in a more elastic skin. Some of these include:

Eating more protein

Proteins are the building blocks for our cells which include collagen and elastin in the skin. Increasing protein intake will help build cells, thus leading to better production of elastin and collagen in our skin.

Getting more sun exposure

Sunlight helps kick start the body’s vitamin D production which helps regulate calcium absorption needed for healthy cell growth. 

Thus, increasing your exposure to sunlight stimulates new cell growth that can result in a thicker dermis layer that contains both elastin and collagen proteins. However, too much exposure may cause damage to your elastin fibers so always wear sunscreen while spending time outside!

Eating whole foods instead of processed ones can also help increase your protein intake without having to eat as much meat or dairy products (which contain less). Whole foods like tofu and beans provide good sources of amino acids needed for healthy cell growth too!

Can you improve your skin elasticity?

Unsurprisingly, it’s not possible to improve the elasticity of your skin. But that doesn’t mean you can’t make it seem as if you have. When we age, our collagen decreases, and the fibers become less tightly packed, meaning our skin loses its youthful firmness and becomes more likely to sag.

There are a few changes you can make to improve its appearance:

  • The sun’s UV rays accelerate aging by breaking down collagen fibers, causing them to shrink and become weaker (the same process causes dark spots and discoloration), so always wear sunscreen when outside.
  • Hydrate from the inside out – Water makes up 70% of every cell in our body, so if we’re dehydrated, it shows on our skin first – dullness and dryness are telltale signs of dehydration; make sure you’re drinking plenty of water throughout the day or consider an oral supplement like A-Pro to help with moisture retention from within.
  • Moisturize daily – Keep skin looking plump and healthy with moisturizer (and facial oils for an extra hydrating boost) that contain nourishing ingredients such as hyaluronic acid or vitamin E oil that will hydrate without feeling heavy on the skin
